This doesn't count tents, maids, and the significant increases from outfits. This isn't even counting inventory slots which, in a grind heavy game, is required and per chatacter. This isn't even counting 4 (and eventually 5 when we get that patch) Tier 4 pets, which are SIGNIFICANTLY faster than tier 1-3 (which you still have to buy or buy from someone who bought) and pretty much required past Mediah/Valencia. It is well documented that the average person takes 2.5 years to hit soft cap compared to the average time of 6~ months for a whale to hit softcap. You can buy costumes and extract from them to make getting PEN significantly easier. Yes, you technically can buy end game gear with real money. I hate when people respond to something so matter-of-factly when they clearly are new to the game and are completely wrong.

You need Forma? You can make them yourself with a little grinding and patience. There's plenty of other items to buy to make things easier or faster. If you're far afield it can save you several minutes. But that's only if you're too lazy to go back to town. You can unload in the field and keep going. Maids are also useful for when your inventory gets full. The more you have (up to the current console max of 4) the faster you can grind. But nothing super vital except maybe pets. You can spend a little extra for comfort items to speed things along and improve quality of life. They'll be in by June along with 4 new classes, 3 new regions, Awakening, and a level cap removal.īasically you don't need to buy anything to have fun in this game.
Also not a factor yet on console since we don't even have world bosses in game yet until a future update. But due to the prices, that's only an option for lazy whales. Technically you can since you can buy Pearl Shop items like costumes and pets then sell them for in game currency on the marketplace. People will tell you it's P2W but it really isn't.
